Burlington Cadet Receives Promotion and Full Ride Scholorship Same Night

4/28/2016–Burlington, NC–The night of April 19th turned out to be a momentous night for one NC Wing cadet. In a promotion ceremony Cadet 1st Lt David Vermillion was promoted to Cadet Captain, which in itself a landmark event. He was then asked to remain as Lt Col Paul Stanifer, Commander, Air Force ROTC Detachment 605, North Carolina A&T University came forward. Lt Col Stanifer then presented a full scholarship to C/Capt Vermillion, which includes all tuition and books, room and board, and a monthly stipend, for up to five years at the university.

There were nine thousand applications nationwide, with fifteen called to interview at North Carolina A&T, of whom 2 were awarded the scholarship. At the completion of his studies, C/Capt Vermillion is expected to be commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the United States Air Force. His goal is to major in Physics and become an Air Force pilot upon earning his commission.

C/Capt Vermillion joined the Civil Air Patrol in October 2012. He has distinguished himself in many areas of cadet service including Cadet Executive Officer, Cadet Public Affairs Officer, Cadet Aerospace Officer, Cadet Drug Demand Reduction Officer, Cadet Flight Sergeant, Cadet First Sergeant and Cadet Flight Commander. He has attended three encampments in his four years as a member, and attended Region Cadet Leadership School, among other many CAP activities.

He was previously recognized as the unit cadet NCO of the Year by the local VFW post and has been awarded the CAP Achievement Award twice for service at activities within the wing.

The Burlington Composite Squadron, North Carolina Wing, Civil Air Patrol wishes to congratulate C/Capt Vermillion for this award and to thank him for his service to the Unit and his future service to the United States Air Force and America.
