11/7/2017–BUIES CREEK, NC–Major Brendan Kearns, of the NC Wing of the Civil Air Patrol (CAP), received the 2017 Outstanding Alumni Service Award from Campbell University. The Award recognizes Maj Kearns' outstanding service to CAP. The Award was presented at the 27 October 2017 Alumni Awards Recognition Dinner in Buies Creek, NC. The Outstanding Alumni Service Award is bestowed upon a Campbell alumnus or alumna who has exemplified Campbell's mission of service towards others.
The (excerpted) Award stated: As an active member of CAP, Maj Kearns serves alongside others to carry out emergency service missions during times of disaster as part of the auxiliary arm of the US Air Force. In 2016, Maj Kearns was twice recognized by the Civil Air Patrol for his good work. Following Hurricane Matthew in October 2016, Major Kearns served as supervisor and team leader of the Civil Air Patrol’s team at the State Emergency Operations Center. During the days following Hurricane Matthew disaster recovery, CAP members assisted with disaster relief and air operations that resulted in more than 50 air rescues. Maj. Kearns’ leadership and service earned him the Civil Air Patrol’s Meritorious Service Award.
Maj Kearns also volunteers with the North Carolina Department of Emergency Management as a CAP Liaison Officer at the State Emergency Operations Center.
Maj Kearns graduated from Campbell University in 1994 earning his Master of Business Administration degree in Financial Management. Prior to coming to Campbell, Maj Kearns earned a bachelor of science degree from S.U.N.Y. Brockport in accounting. His financial skills greatly help the NC Wing in his duties as the NCWG's Asst Director of Finance and the Group 2 Commander. He was also CAP's national Director of Finance of the Year in 2016.
When not volunteering with CAP, Maj Kearns is employed as a senior treasury analyst at ABB, Inc. He and his wife, Patricia, have two children: Brendan and Brigid, both of whom are active CAP cadets.
