4/24/2018–WILMINGTON, NC–On 14-15 April 2018, the Cape Fear Composite Squadron and the Brunswick County Composite Squadron hosted a successful Professional Development Weekend at the New Hanover County Emergency Operations Center in Wilmington. While most of Wilmington was enjoying the Azalea Festival, a total of 24 Civil Air Patrol students completed either Squadron Leadership School, Corporate Learning Course, or Training Leaders of Cadets - Basic and Intermediate.
Of the eight instructors, five were also students who stepped up to teach at least one session. Six different squadrons were represented at the training, with members traveling from the Tar River, Apex, Raleigh-Wake and NCLA squadrons.
The facilities host, the New Hanover County Public Safety Center, offered excellent classroom space to use.
The courses were directed by: Maj Jeff Farkas - CLC, Maj Kathy Nicholas - SLS and Maj Jeff Walker - TLC-B and TLC-I. Lt Col Ed Angelovich, NCWG Vice Commander, was one of the instructors and presented the course completion certificates.
The second day of training began with a uniform inspection for senior members, an activity that cadets are very familiar with, but is rare for most senior members. It was a great learning weekend for all. One of the most important benefits of attending a weekend like this is getting to meet members from other squadrons to share ideas and experiences and to make connections with other NC Wing members. Thank you to all the instructors and students for investing time in their professional development.
